Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Basketball team (18-8, 11-6 PBC) topped Clayton State University (14-10, 9-8 PBC) 73-61 Wednesday night. The victory on Bobcat Senior Night clinches a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament seed for the team for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
Senior Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) led the charge once again, tallying 23 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, the seventh double-double of the guard's career. The 14 caroms top his previous career-best of 11, set on three occasions. Harris hit 6-for-13 from the field, knocked down a pair of threes and went 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
The only other Bobcat in double-figure scoring was senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) with 18 points including four makes from long range.
In a battle between the top two defensive teams in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) the Bobcats won out, holding Clayton State to just 39 percent shooting (22-56) from the field. The Bobcats fared a little better at 42 percent (22-52), but made seven more threes and five more from the free-throw line.
The game was largely a back-and-forth affair until the final five minutes of the first half. From there, Georgia College went on a 9-2 run to stretch out the lead at the buzzer. After the break, the Lakers would never threaten, the gap increasing to an 18-point lead at 57-39 with 12:47 left in the game.
The win gives the Bobcats a 11-6 mark, positioned in fourth in the PBC West, with the top four teams advancing to the PBC Tournament Feb. 27. Despite having two games left, the Bobcats now own the tiebreaker with the Lakers after a season series sweep. Georgia College is just one game behind the three-way tie for first in the division with those two games left.
Harris' 23 points gives the senior 620 on the season, passing both Ronnie Sims' 1983-84 season effort of 610 and Mike Roberts' 617 points in the 1986-87 season for third in the school's record books. Up next is the two-way tie for first between Tim Jones and Jerome Shelton at 653.
Prior to the contest, the Bobcats honored their four seniors, as Anderson, Harris, Rio McMillian (Chicago Heights, Illinois) and Ryan Blumenthal (Acworth) each played their last regular-season contest at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m., traveling to Georgia Southwestern State University.
