Bobcat Men's Basketball Takes Down Rival Columbus State in Homecoming Win, 88-78

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Basketball team (16-7, 9-5 PBC) got a crucial Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Division victory over long-time rival Columbus State University (16-5, 10-4 PBC) 88-78 Saturday at the Centennial Center for Homecoming on ESPN3.

All five Bobcat starters reached double-digit scoring, led by 23 points from senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota). The guard did more of his damage in the first half with 14 points before the break.

Classmate Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) had 17 points and a game-high six assists. Senior guard Ryan Blumenthal (Acworth) had 14 points and four rebounds, while classmate Rio McMillian (Chicago Heights, Illinois) added 11 points and four rebounds. Freshman Isaac Thomas (Trion) filled a boxscore once again, tallying 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

The Bobcats knocked down 11 three-point shots, the 10th time Georgia College has made double-digit threes. It also marks the fifth time in the last six games.

Georgia College took the lead for good at the 15:45 mark in the first half, when Blumenthal knocked down a three off a pass from Thomas for an 8-7 lead. The Bobcats never surrendered the advantage, although it was down to a single-possession game on a few occasions.

The Bobcats shot 52 percent (28-54) to 49 percent from CSU (32-67). The Bobcats overcame the 44-29 deficit on the glass by making more threes (11-4) and free throws (21-10).

Columbus State was led by 17 points off the bench from Brent Jackson. The team's leading scorer, Cam Baker, came into the contest at 21.1 points per game and was held to just nine by the Bobcat defense.

The win puts Georgia College at 9-5 in conference play, good for fourth in the PBC West, the top four teams advance to the PBC Tournament Feb. 27.

The Bobcats hit the road next, traveling to Young Harris College (12-11, 10-4 PBC) Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Mountain Lions won in Milledgeville 96-87 Jan. 27.
