#10 Bobcats Pounce on the Jaguars in a Home Sweep

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College Softball (16-3, 3-1 PBC) team logged two wins for its home crowd after taking down Augusta University 7-2 and 8-5 in a double header today.

Junior pitcher Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) dominated from the circle keeping Augusta University to only two runs in the first game and earing a 0.00 ERA on the day. Her outstanding play kept the Jaguar offence caged in the first game, and super charger the Georgia College defense coming in in relief for the second game. Lewis earned her first save of the season in game two.

The Bobcats took the lead early in game one against the Jaguars, 3-0. Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) was the first Bobcat runner on base after taking a pitcher off of her elbow, followed be the shortstop Baylee Hall (Hephziba) reaching first on an error. The Bobcat RBI machine, Abi Leroy (Dublin), joined the duo after being walked. Faith Flanders (Dublin) continued her sensational start to the season slamming an early double up the middle scoring Hall and Brooks. Senior catcher Lacey Najafi (Suwanee) brought home LeRoy with a nifty bunt RBI to end the scoring for the Bobcats in inning one.

In the second inning the Bobcat offense used their momentum and scored two more from hits up the Jaguar gut. The first run was off a single up the center from Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins) bringing Brooks around the bags again. Flanders continued her big day at the plate with another RBI single up the center to bring Hall home.

The Bobcats concluded its scoring for the first game in the fourth off of RBIs from designated player Campbell and the outstanding first base Flanders. Junior pitcher Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) dominated from the circle closing out the first match with a 0.00 ERA.

The second saw the Bobcats and Jaguars trading places as the Bobcats went down 4-1 by the top of the fourth.

Georgia College found their groove by the bottom of the fifth inning and took the lead with two unanswered runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. 

Sophomore identical twin Hannah Course (Powder Springs) flaunted her batting skill with a two RBI double scoring Danielle Bernstein (Cumming) and LeRoy in the fourth. Campbell earned another RBI in the series after scoring Brooks. The Bobcats batted through the order in the fourth and fifth. LeRoy found herself at the plate again and crushed a double to left field scoring pinch runner Emily Robertson (Dacula) and Hall.

Going in to the sixth inning, the Bobcats took the Jaguar lead, 5-4.

Lewis came in the bottom of the sixth, putting a total stand still to the Augusta offence.

The Bobcat offence chipped in and put the icing on the cake in the sixth scoring two more runs off the end of Flanders bat with a two run home run. Flanders finished the day with five RBIs followed by Campbell with four.

The Bobcats are back in action this weekend at the Shaw University Softball Challenge. Play starts for Georgia College in Raleigh, North Carolina Friday, Mar. 4 again Benedict College.
