#8 Bobcat Softball Splits Doubleheader Action with Flagler

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 8 Georgia College Softball team (25-9, 4-4 PBC) split a pair of games Sunday with Flagler College (18-17, 3-9 PBC), rebounding from a 19-5 loss to take an 8-5 win in game two.

Game one was all Saints from the get-go, as Flagler jumped out to a 7-0 lead and really never looked back, rattling off 21 hits for the 19-5 victory. Any hopes of a late comeback were squashed by a nine-run seventh.

Junior Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) went 3-for-3 with an RBI in game one. Tallying two hits each were freshman Julia Tindall (Brunswick), leftfielder Holland Coursey (Spring Hill) and senior Abi LeRoy (Dublin). Coursey scored two runs, while LeRoy drove in one and scored another.

In game two, the Saints struck first again, getting a solo home run from Mackenzie Conley in the second. The Bobcats answered right back in the bottom half with three runs of their own, including an RBI double from Coursey. After Flagler cut the lead to 3-2, Georgia College bats stretched five runs over the next two innings to take over 8-2. Pinch hitter Shawnda Martin (Calhoun) had a two-run home run in the fifth, followed back-to-back by a Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) solo shot into the parking lot. A quick three-run rally stalled for the Saints in the seventh.

Designated player Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins) finished game two 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of doubles. Catcher Lacey Najafi (Suwanee) tallied two singles and an RBI.

Senior Marisa Boyette (Marietta) posted the complete game, allowing five runs and fanning three Saint batters, improving to 9-3.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 23 at 2 p.m., traveling to Carson-Newman University for non-conference action.
