NEWBERRY, S.C. – Georgia College Baseball (14-12) brought home another non-conference victory after they defeated the Newberry College Wolves (21-9-1) in South Carolina, 13-5.

Newberry claimed a first-inning lead when a single sent in a run while the bases were filled with Wolves. That lead, however, was brief and disappeared as the Bobcats had three players cross the plate in the second. Georgia College repeated the three-run performance in the third inning when, following a run brought in by a walk, Wesley Wommack (Monroe, Georgia) sent a teammate home with a sac fly and Defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) got an RBI on a single.

After the Wolves grabbed a second run, the Bobcats put four more on the board. Newberry added another run before two scoreless innings from both teams. A single from catcher Brandon Purcell (Glennville, Georgia) restarted scoring for the Bobcats in the seventh inning. The Wolves matched the Bobcats' two runs with two of their own before another inning without runs. A final run scored by Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) and a scoreless ninth for the Wolves signaled a victory for the Bobcats, 13-5.

Third baseman Garrett Green (Bogart, Georgia) topped the Bobcats in RBIs collecting three for the night. Mattix and leftfielder Brandon Cody (San Clemente, California) tied for rank two with a pair of RBIs apiece. Mattix and shortstop Brandon Benson (Loganville, Georgia) had three hits each, Benson scoring three times and driving in another. Cook, Wommack and rightfielder Matthew Miller (Escondido, California) had two hits each.

Grant Khan (Richmond, Texas) earned his first win as a Bobcat from his two innings pitched against the Wolves. He had two strikeouts while on the mound and only gave up a single run. Relievers Bradley Spinner (Roswell, Georgia) and Cameron Busby (Grovetown, Georgia) had similar performances. Both relievers racked up two strikeouts while pitching for two innings.

The Bobcats return to John Kurtz Field for their next game against Rollins College. The three-game series begins Thursday, March 24, at 6 p.m.
