#8 Georgia College Softball Takes Two at Albany State

Box Score

ALBANY, Ga. – The No. 8 Georgia College Softball (22-4) team swept Albany State University (3-12) earlier today in double-header play, 6-3 and 9-0.

After a strong weekend at the Shaw University Softball Challenge, the Bobcats continued their dominant play at Albany State in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader.

In game one sophomore Holland Coursey (Powder Springs) and catcher Lacey Najafi (Suwannee) teamed up to lead the offense. Coursey went 2-for-3 at bat scoring three runs and earning herself an RBI. Najafi was perfect at bat going 2-for-2 with an RBI of her own.

Marissa Boyette (Marietta) and freshman Brooke Taylor (Powder Springs) split the duties in the circle only allowing three runs to score off of five hits and tossing two strikeouts.

In the second game, the Bobcats cranked their offense to the next level and beat Albany State 9-0 in the fifth inning with the run rule.

The recent Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week, Faith Flanders (Dublin) showed true form with a perfect performance batting, going 2-for-2 scoring two runs and adding another RBI to her quickly growing total on the season. Juniors Danielle Bernstein (Cumming) and Cassidy Rice (Du Quoin, Illinois) juiced the supercharged Bobcats too.

Bernstein scored two runs and logged two RBIs going two for three at bat. Rice ripped an in-the-park home run in the 9-0 victory.

Junior Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) threw for the Bobcats in game two. Lewis slung 11 strikeouts in the five inning shutout.

The Bobcats are back in action this weekend Saturday March 12, in a home doubleheader against Wingate University. The first pitch is set for noon.
