MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a game pushed back a couple hours by a rain delay, the Georgia College Softball squad (39-16) saw their Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament hopes dashed in the quarterfinal round, 5-0 by UNC Pembroke (29-23-1) Friday at the Peeler Complex.

UNCP got all the runs it would need on a pair of home runs in the first inning. Abbey Walters got the scoring started with a two-run shot, and an out later, Toni Nelson followed with a solo blast. UNCP starter Katie Saunders (16-12) scattered six Bobcat hits over her seven frames, adding just one walk.

Righty Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) rebounded well from the rocky start and finished with a solid line of three earned runs over six frames with three strikeouts. Lewis falls to 20-9 on the season.

Third baseman Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) was the lone multi-hit performer for the Bobcats, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

While the Peach Belt Tournament run has come to a close for Georgia College, the Bobcats now await announcement of the at-large selections to the NCAA Southeast Regional sites. The Bobcats, listed at No. 5 in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region Poll released Wednesday, will find out the official announcement of the field May 2.
