GC Volleyball Sweeps Augusta in Crucial PBC Matchup, Sets School Record for Wins

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a pairing with large conference and regional implications, the Georgia College Volleyball team (18-5, 7-3 PBC) made short work of Augusta University (16-12, 5-4 PBC), sending the Jaguars home in three sets. The win sets a school record for single-season victories after going 17-14 a year ago.

The Bobcats started strong with a 25-16 first-set effort, never trailing in the frame. Set two was a bit more hotly-contested at 25-22, but the Bobcats still never trailed. In the third, the Jaguars led a pair of times, but the Bobcats closed strong with a 6-1 run to take the set 25-16.

"Tonight was a hard-fought win over a close rival in Augusta," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We communicated, executed our game plan and finished strong. We are looking forward to games ahead. I'm so proud of this team."

The multi-faceted Bobcat offense was scary on Halloween night, not having a single attacker with double-digit kills despite having 45 as a team. Sophomore Emily Crowell (Horseheads, New York) and junior Taylor Svehla (Cumming) led the way with nine apiece.

Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Specialist of the Week Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) had a big match, tallying 40 assists, two aces, four kills and a pair of blocks. Senior Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah) led the way with 17 digs, while freshman Libby Bochniak (Marietta) added 11. Rookie Emma Boughner (Bogart) paced the Bobcats with five blocks.

The win was the first for Bobcat Volleyball against the Jaguars all-time, after eight losses to start the series.

The win puts Georgia College at 7-3 in league play, good for third in the PBC Standings. The Bobcats have two conference contests remaining and could finish as high as first or as low as fifth.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m., playing host to USC Aiken.
