GC Men's Basketball Comes From Behind to Top Albany State, 60-56

Box Score

ALBANY, Ga. – It took a significant tightening of the defensive clamps in the second half, but the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (5-3) beat Albany State University (0-11) 60-56 on the road Saturday night.

The Bobcats got strong play from their experienced frontcourt, as sophomore Kohl Roberts (Atlanta) and junior Isaac Thomas (Trion) combined for 28 points and 19 rebounds.

Georgia College trailed by as much as 12 at 35-23 with 1:25 left in the first half. The Bobcats reversed fortunes in the second half, hitting 52 percent (13-25) from the field after halftime, and allowing ASU just 21 percent (6-28) shooting over the same timeframe.

The Bobcats got their first second-half lead on a Garrick DeBowles (Marietta) free throw with 14:52 left in the game. The teams remained close for the remainder of the contest, the Golden Rams grabbing a lead just under the seven-minute mark. An Isaac Thomas jumper at 5:58 gave the Bobcats the lead 50-48, and the Bobcats would not surrender that advantage the rest of the way. DeBowles finished with eight points.

Roberts hit 6-of-9 from the floor, pulled in 11 rebounds and swatted three shots in his best performance of the young season.

Thomas pulled in eight rebounds of his own tonight, giving the junior 503 in his career. In tonight's contest, he passed Larrentis Thomas (2013-15) into ninth in school history. Up next is Johnny Simpson (1984-86) at 515.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to USC Aiken.
