MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – It was no contest at John Kurtz Field Tuesday afternoon, as Georgia College (8-5) made easy work of the Albany State University Golden Rams (0-12), defeating them 12-1 in seven innings.

The story of the afternoon was junior Logan Mattix (Loganville) who had himself an unbelievable day, hitting for the cycle in his first four trips to the plate. He utilized his speed by stretching a routine double into a three bagger after roping a line-drive into the right field corner to complete his cycle in just the fifth inning. Mattix finished the afternoon going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Tuesday's match up was decided early, with the Bobcats securing a 9-0 lead after just three innings of play. Georgia College finished its afternoon with 12 runs on 13 hits.

Senior Brandon Benson (Loganville) got things rolling for the Bobcats in the first with a two-run blast over the centerfield wall, tallying his seventh home run through the opening 13 games. Benson then doubled in the bottom of the second, driving in two more runs; giving him four RBIs on the day. Georgia College pushed two more across in the second off a Cal Gentry (Perry) RBI single and Mattix RBI double, extending their lead to 6-0 after two.

The Bobcats tacked on three more in the third, with an RBI triple from Gentry and an opposite field home run from the man who did it all Tuesday, Mattix. This gave Georgia College a comfortable 9-0 lead after three innings of play. Gentry continued his solid play going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

An early nine-run lead for the Bobcats was enough for them to coast to an easy mid-week victory. They scored three more and only allowed one run to the Rams for the remainder of the contest, securing their 12-1 win.

Notable days at the dish for Georgia College came from Wesley Wommack (Monroe) and Clayten Ayres (Kennewick, Washington).  Wommack recorded a two-hit afternoon with one run scored and Ayres put the game out of reach in the sixth, with a two-run double down the leftfield line.

Senior Trevor Guthrie (Cumming) made his first start on the bump, throwing a scoreless four innings while only allowing two hits and fanning six to earn his first win (1-1) of the 2017 season.

The Bobcats were granted a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) bye week for the approaching weekend, so they will be hosting Philadelphia University this Friday, Mar. 3 at 6 p.m. at The Kurtz.
