GC Softball Splits Doubleheader at Columbus State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball team (20-12, 6-2 PBC) returned to conference play Friday, splitting a doubleheader at Columbus State University (15-13-1, 3-1 PBC). The Bobcats took game one 3-2 before falling in the nightcap 6-1.

Offense was a premium in game one, as Bobcat sophomore Kayla Price (Indian Land, South Carolina) went head-to-head with Helen Snavely for the Cougars. Leftfielder Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) provided the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.

The Bobcats scored first in the second, getting a run on a bases-loaded walk from Cassidy Rice (Du Quoin, Illinois). The Cougars answered with a pair in the fourth to take the lead.

A first-and-third steal brought in the tying run in the fifth, where pinch runner Emily Robertson (Dacula) did just that in taking home, setting up Coursey's heroics in the seventh. In the final inning, the first two batters reached on a walk and single, and after an out, another infield single loaded up the bases. Coursey then came through in the clutch, plating the go-ahead score with a single to center. CSU started the bottom of the seventh with a single but three outs later, Georgia College had the win.

Price improved to 12-2 with a complete game, allowing six hits and two runs. Rightfielder Deja Lester (Jacksonville) was the only multi-hit performer at 2-for-4.

In game two, Columbus State scored all six runs over the first three frames to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest, as the Cougars evened out the doubleheader.

Senior Faith Flanders (Dublin) provided solid relief to keep it close, tossing 3 2/3 innings allowing two hits and a single run.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. traveling to Georgia Southwestern State University.
