GC Baseball Falls to Erskine on the Road, 3-1

Box Score

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Georgia College Baseball program (11-6) was outmatched on the road by the Erskine College Flying Fleet (16-5) in a low-scoring, non-conference mid-week matchup, 3-1.

The Bobcat offense cooled off a bit in the Wednesday afternoon contest, tallying just one run on five hits.  The lone Georgia College run came in the first at bat of the game when junior Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) smashed a solo shot, recording his third home run of the year.  Mattix also singled later in the top of the third, adding yet another two-hit performance to his 2017 campaign, going 2-for-5 with a RBI and run scored.

The Flying Fleet pitching staff had a solid afternoon against the powerhouse Bobcat offense, using a total of four pitchers who allowed zero runs on four hits following the lead-off home run.

Sophomore Perry Keith (La Grange, Georgia) got the nod for the Georgia College pitchers, tossing a solid 4 1/3, allowing three hits on two earned runs with two strikeouts.  Colin LoCurto (Kennesaw, Georgia), Logan Hicks (Statham, Georgia) and Logan Howard (Cumming, Georgia) combined for a scoreless 3 2/3 innings pitched late in the game to keep the Bobcats in a position to win.

Freshman Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) continued his consistent play at the dish with another two-hit game going 2-for-4. The Bobcats had the tying run on second in the ninth with just one out, but couldn't get the clutch hit as Erskine closed out the victory.
