Box Score 2 AMERICUS, Ga. – A pair of great pitching performances paced the No. 22 Georgia College Baseball team (6-4, 3-0 PBC) to two victories Saturday, sweeping a series at Georgia Southwestern State University (2-5, 0-3 PBC) with wins of 7-1 and 6-2.
In game one, sophomore Matt Studdard (Conyers) dealt eight shutout innings, fanning eight while not walking a batter and scattering three hits. Studdard improves to 2-1 with the gem.
A 1-0 game into the sixth, Georgia College got four in the sixth and two more in the seventh to push the game out of reach. Centerfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville) had a 3-for-4 game, scoring twice and driving in one on a double in the seventh. Catcher Brandon Purcell (Glennville) added two hits, an RBI and a run, while shortstop Cal Gentry (Perry) posted two hits and a run scored.
Game two was more of the same, with senior Trevor Guthrie (Cumming) and Bradly Cammack (Soperton) combining for the win. Cammack threw the last five to get the win (2-0), allowing one run on six hits and striking out five. Guthrie allowed a run over four innings, three hits and three strikeouts.
First baseman Matthew Miller (San Diego, California) was 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in a run with a single as part of the three-run sixth. Designated hitter Wesley Wommack (Monroe) had a 2-for-3 game with a pair of RBIs, scoring once. Purcell tallied another multi hit game, driving in another run. He finished the two games 4-for-9 with two RBIs and a run.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m., playing host to Young Harris College.
