GC Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Mid-South Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

REIDVILLE, S.C. – The Georgia College Softball program (6-6) split its doubleheader Saturday afternoon, dropping their first game to Lincoln Memorial University (3-5) 8-2, and then taking down Converse College (0-14) in five innings, 9-0 at the Mid-South Classic.

Georgia College managed to strike first in game one when Caroline Snider (Tennille, Georgia) smacked a one-out double eventually coming around to score on a passed ball, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead after one.  Lincoln Memorial retaliated by hitting a couple home runs which led to them scoring seven times over the next three innings, giving the Railsplitters a 7-2 advantage after four innings.

Georgia College offense was unable to dig themselves out of their deficit and eventually dropped the contest 8-2.  Sutton Long (Milledgeville, Georgia) had a notable performance going 2-for-2 at the dish with a solo shot in the third.

Game two of the Saturday doubleheader was a different story for the Bobcats, as they took down the Converse Valkyries in five innings, 9-0.

Georgia College got out to an early advantage by posting a five-spot in the first inning after some defensive miscues by the Valkyries.  The Bobcats pushed across two each in the third and fourth innings to secure their win after Kayla Price (Indian Land) coaxed a complete game shut-out.   Price tossed five innings while only allowing one hit in gaining her third win of the year.

Nicole Humphries (Columbus, Georgia) had a big game at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.  Sarah Couch (Madison, Georgia) was also stellar at the plate going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Georgia College Softball is back in action at the Mid-South Tournament when they take on the University of Mount Olive Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m.
