GC Softball Flexes Offensive Muscle in Doubleheader Sweep at Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball team (2-2) got its first two wins of the young 2018 season Tuesday, sweeping action at Albany State University (0-6), 12-7 and 11-0. The Bobcats rattled off 25 hits for 23 runs over the course of 12 total innings.

Game one required two big innings for the Bobcats to get their first win of the season, plating six in the fourth and five more in the fifth. The top six hitters in the Bobcat order had multi-hit performances in game one.

Second baseman Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill) was a star, finishing 2-for-2 with four RBIs, a home run and two runs scored. Leftfielder Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) added two hits of her own, three RBIs, and two runs scored, including a two-run double in the game's deciding fourth inning. Third baseman Amber Coy (Warner Robins) and centerfielder Caroline Snider (Tennille) each went 2-for-3, Snider scoring three times and Coy twice.

Shortstop Baylee Hall (Hephzibah) had a 2-for-5 game, scoring two runs and first baseman Haley Howell (Rochelle) added two more hits in four trips with an RBI. Righty Kayla Price (Indian Land, South Carolina) got the win (1-2), throwing five innings and allowing five earned runs.

In game two, the Bobcats were dominant, getting the mercy-rule finish in five innings.

Holland Coursey went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Hannah Coursey posted two more hits in four trips, adding an RBI and a run. Coy had three more safeties, driving in one and scoring another, and second baseman Sutton Long (Milledgeville) was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Becca Meade (Winder) was the benefactor of the run support, surrendering just a single hit and two walks in five scoreless innings, fanning four and improving to 1-0.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m., traveling to Newberry College.
