GC Softball Gets Comeback and Blowout in Sweep of Claflin, 5-4 and 19-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball squad (15-9) took a pair of vastly different games from Claflin University (10-15) Tuesday, 5-4 and 19-1 at the Peeler Complex.

In game one, the Bobcats needed a two-run rally in the sixth to come from behind to take down the Panthers.

Down 4-3, the Bobcat rally started after two outs. Sarah Couch (Madison) singled, swiped second and scored on a Sutton Long (Milledgeville) single. After Long stole second, an error allowed the second run to cross the plate.

After a Bobcat error to start the seventh, Jessie Morris (Vidalia) retired the final three batters to seal the win, improving to 2-0. Morris threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing a single run on one hit and one walk. She fanned three.

Couch finished 2-for-2 with two runs, and Long went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Game two was decidedly more comfortable, the Bobcats getting five runs in the first, three in the second, five in the third and six more in the fourth for the run-shortened win.

Freshman Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Centerfielder Caroline Snider (Tennille) went 2-for-3, scoring four runs and driving in a pair. Shortstop Amber Coy (Warner Robins) added a 2-for-3 game, three runs and two RBIs. Couch had two hits with two runs as well.

Junior Kayla Price (Indian Land, South Carolina) was the benefactor of the run barrage, tossing five innings with five hits, a run, no walks and seven whiffs.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 16 at 2 p.m. playing host to Georgia Southwestern State University.
