Hecht Dazzles, #22 Bobcat Baseball Beats #34 USC Aiken, 8-1

Box Score

AIKEN, S.C. – Behind a complete-game masterpiece from senior Charlie Hecht (Johns Creek, Georgia) the No. 22 Georgia College Baseball team (10-5, 7-0 PBC) beat No. 34 USC Aiken (10-5, 3-1 PBC) 8-1 Friday, remaining undefeated in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.

Hecht held a no-hitter until one out in the seventh, finishing with two hits allowed, walking three and buzzing through the Pacer hitters for 14 strikeouts. The strikeout total is the most by a Bobcat pitcher since Matt LaMothe (2011-13) struck out 14 Clark Atlanta batters in 2013.

Third baseman Garrett Green (Bogart, Georgia) plated the first run with a bases-loaded single in the second. First baseman Matthew Miller (San Diego, California) added another RBI single in the third for a 3-0 lead. After a John Davis (Marietta, Georgia) sacrifice fly in the sixth, Brandt Stallings (Buford, Georgia) plated another run on another single in the seventh for a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, USC Aiken's Nile Goings touched Hecht for a solo home run. The Bobcat righty got out of the inning after another single, and then allowed just a single walk over the last two frames to close it out.

Stallings was 2-for-3 with two RBI singles, and Green finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Designated hitter Wesley Wommack (Monroe, Georgia) added four hits of his own, scoring twice. Miller, Mike Warren (Atlanta, Georgia) and Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) had two hits apiece.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 3 at 2 p.m. against the Pacers.
