Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 Georgia College Baseball squad (11-6, 8-1 PBC) came a pair of runs shy of sweeping a three-game set at No. 34 USC Aiken (11-6, 4-2 PBC), the Pacers slipping by with a 5-4 win Sunday after Friday and Saturday victories for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The big inning was the fourth, featuring RBI singles from third baseman Garrett Green (Bogart, Georgia) and first baseman Matthew Miller (San Diego, California) sandwiched around a run-scoring double from shortstop Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia).
The Pacers cut the lead in half with single runs in the fourth and sixth, but then took over with a three-run rally in the eighth. The Bobcats had a pair of chances at the tie in the ninth, but the first run was first cut down at the plate on a fielder's choice with one out, and then the final out came with the tying run on second.
Miller finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Green added a 3-for-3 effort scoring once and plating another. Bobcat starter Matt Studdard (Conyers) didn't factor in the decision, but threw a solid 5 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk, fanning four.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m., playing host to Francis Marion University.
