Box Score

ALBANY, Ga. – Behind strong pitching and a pair of RBIs from Matthew Miller (San Diego, California) the No. 13 Georgia College Baseball team (31-8) topped Albany State University (19-16) 6-2 on the road Tuesday.

The Bobcats scored the final five runs of the contest to overcome a first-inning 2-1 hole.

With Georgia College down 2-1 into the fifth, Miller ripped a single to left to tie the game. Two innings later, junior Brandt Stallings (Buford) swatted his fifth home run of the season for the lead. Miller drove in another run in the inning on a groundout, senior Brandon Purcell (Glennville) stole home in the eighth, and junior Wesley Wommack (Monroe) capped the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth.

Junior Chandler Amason (Grayson) threw six innings for the win, improving to 3-1 on the season. He surrendered just two runs on eight hits and a pair of walks, fanning three. Sophomore Harrison Veldsma (Marietta) spun the final three frames scoreless, allowing just a single hit with four strikeouts for his first career save.

Miller finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run, while Wommack was 2-for-5 as well with the RBI. Sophomore Cal Gentry (Perry) had two hits in four at-bats with a run scored and senior Mike Warren (Atlanta) added the same line, both men tallying doubles. Senior Nate Schmal (Cumming) rounded out the multi-hit performers with a pair of singles in five trips.
