Stout Pitching Leads #25 GC Softball to Sweep over Augusta

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.  –  The No. 25 Georgia College softball program (33-11, 14-2 PBC) shut down the Augusta University Jaguars (17-33, 8-12 PBC) in both games at the Saturday afternoon doubleheader at the Peeler Complex, 6-0, 2-0.

A three-hit complete game shut out from Jessie Morris (Vidalia) led Georgia College to a smooth 6-0 game one victory over the Jags.  Morris finished the game with seven punchouts while allowing just one free pass.

The Bobcat offense came in waves as they scored a trio of runs in both the first and fifth inning.  Georgia College got on the board early due to a couple miscues from the Augusta defense and a sacrifice fly from Lindley Bruce (Kennesaw) to take a 3-0 lead after the first frame.

The next wave of offensive came in the bottom of the fifth and it started with an RBI single by Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill).  She later scored off another error by the Jaguar defense.  Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) drove in the last run with a double down the leftfield line to put the Bobcats on top, 6-0 after five.  Six runs were plenty for Morris to work with as she shut down the Augusta bats for the remainder of the game to earn the win.   Morris improves to 10-1 on the year.

A notable game one performance came from Caroline Snider (Tennille) who went 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of runs scored.

The dominant Bobcat pitching continued in game two as Danielle Rubin (Canton) also threw a complete game shutout to defeat the Jags 2-0.  Rubin only allowed two hits in the contest while also recording a strikeout to earn the win, holding a no-hitter for 4 2/3 innings.

The Georgia College offense wasn't quite as effective in the second game in scoring just two runs to seal the victory.  Jolie Bush (Vidalia) put the Bobcats on the board in the second with a single up the middle to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.  GC Softball added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot off the bat of Haley Howell (Rochelle) to extend the lead to 2-0 after five. The blast was the freshman's second.

That lead would hold and result in an afternoon sweep for Georgia College over Augusta. Snider also had herself a notable game two, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Georgia College Softball is back on the diamond when they travel to No. 2 University of North Georgia for a critical Peach Belt Conference (PBC) matchup Wednesday, April 25 at 4 p.m.
