Strong Pitching and Late Hitting Lead GC Softball over USC Aiken, 9-1 and 9-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Moving their win streak to six in a row and 15 of the last 16, the Georgia College Softball team (26-10, 7-1 PBC) dispatched USC Aiken (10-28, 2-8 PBC) 9-1 and 9-2 Friday at the Peeler Complex.

The game one offense was powered by senior Baylee Hall (Hephzibah) as the leadoff hitter pounded out three hits in four trips, scored a run and drove in five, including a three-run blast in the fifth. The round tripper was Hall's third this season and eighth in her career.

Tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats scored eight unanswered runs over the next three innings to get the run-rule win in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Jessie Morris (Vidalia) continued to make an impact in the circle, tossing five innings, scattering four hits and two walks for a single run and striking out six. Morris stayed perfect on the season at 7-0.

Junior Caroline Snider (Tennille) was 2-for-4 with an RBI, three runs and a double. Senior Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) added two hits in three trips, scoring twice, while freshman Sutton Long (Milledgeville) added a pair of hits in three at-bats as well, scoring once and driving in another.

In game two, sophomore reliever Danielle Rubin (Canton) shut down a scary situation in the second and finished with six shutout innings to help the Bobcats come from behind. The righty nabbed her first collegiate victory (1-0), surrendering five hits and a walk over her six scoreless frames. She entered in the second after USCA took a 2-1 lead on a home run from Chandler Terrapin, and Lyndie Dorgan followed with a double. Rubin retired the next three hitters to keep the lead at 2-1, then spun five more shutout frames, setting up the Bobcat comeback.

The Bobcats took the lead with a three-run fourth, scoring a total of eight runs in innings 4-through-6. The fourth was highlighted by run-scoring singles from Sarah Couch (Madison) and Amber Coy (Warner Robins) wrapped around a run-scoring wild pitch.

Couch, Coy, Coursey and freshman Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) each had two hits. Couch and Coy each drove in a pair, while Coursey and Davis each scored once. Freshman Lindley Bruce (Kennesaw) was impressive, pounding out three hits in four at-bats with two RBIs and a run.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, April 8 at 2 p.m., traveling to Lander University.
