Box Score 2 GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College Softball team (27-11, 8-2 PBC) saw a nine-game win streak come to a close and potentially started a new one in a doubleheader split at Lander University (21-17, 5-9 PBC), dropping game one 6-3 and taking the second contest 10-3 Sunday.
The Bobcats rallied for three late runs in game one, but the rally fell short. Lander struck first with runs in the second and third innings, leading 4-0 after the third. A Caroline Snider (Tennille, Georgia) sacrifice fly ended the shutout bid, but Lander answered back with a pair of runs in the fifth for a 6-1 lead.
The top of the seventh rolled around, and Snider singled with one out. After another out, freshman Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen, Georgia) took a pitch over the fence for her fourth home run of the season. The rally would stop there, but the Bobcat bats couldn't be held back in game two.
Freshman Jessie Morris (Vidalia, Georgia) took the loss in game one, the first of her career, falling to 7-1. She went 2 2/3 innings.
In game two, the Bobcats again found themselves down late. Trailing 3-1 into the sixth, Georgia College posted a seven-run rally. The Bobcats pounded out seven hits for the seven runs, sending 13 hitters to the plate. The highlight of the inning was a two-run double off the bat of freshman Sarah Couch (Madison, Georgia). Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill, Georgia) also added a run-scoring double.
The Bobcats put up two more runs in the seventh to push the game further out of reach. Freshman Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia, Georgia) went the distance in the win, allowing three runs on three hits and a pair of walks. The rookie improved to 7-4 while taking three down via strikeout.
Couch went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Coursey added a 4-for-5 effort, driving home a pair and scoring once. Freshman Sutton Long (Milledgeville, Georgia) had three hits in four at-bats with three runs, while senior Baylee Hall (Hephzibah, Georgia) and sophomore Amber Coy (Warner Robins, Georgia) each posted two hits. Coy added two RBIs and a run, while Hall scored once.
