Bobcat Softball Advances to Peach Belt Tournament Semifinal with 4-1 Win Over Augusta

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Jessie Morris (Vidalia) allowed one run over seven innings as the No. 2-seeded Georgia College Softball team (36-13) advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 7-seed Augusta University (17-34).

Morris shone in the circle today, and repeatedly showcased her ability to escape from tight spots, starting with the first inning. The Jaguars loaded the bases with two outs but Morris induced a fly out to keep Augusta off the board.

Morris stranded two baserunners in the third and fourth innings and once again left the bases loaded in the sixth. In all Morris allowed eight hits and walked two in the one-run outing. The lone Jaguar run came in the seventh inning on a solo homerun that barely dented what was a four-run lead.

The Bobcats gave Morris a 2-0 cushion in the bottom of the third inning when Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill) reached on an RBI infield single and Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) walked with the bases loaded.

Georgia College delivered its final blows in the sixth inning as Amber Coy (Warner Robins) doubled to bring in Hannah Coursey – who had reached earlier on her second hit of the day – and Nicole Humphries (Columbus) singled to bring in Coy.

In addition to Coursey's two-hit performance, Caroline Snider (Tennille) added a triple and a single for a standout performance on the day.

The Bobcats move on to face No. 3-seed Columbus State University in the semifinal round. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5.
