MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (7-13, 1-4 PBC) beat Francis Marion University (13-10, 1-4 PBC) in five sets Friday at the Centennial Center, the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win of the season for the Bobcats.
GC dropped the first set 25-18, then evened things out with a 25-22 second. After the third went to FMU by a 25-22 score, the Bobcats took the fourth 25-21. A tightly-played 15-12 final set closed the match in Georgia College's favor.
GC had strong blocking, finishing with 17 as a team, breaking the school record of 15 set in 2014 against then-GRU Augusta. Sophomore Sarah Mangan (Farmingville, New York) led with eight, flanked by seven from Emily Crowell (Horseheads, New York) and six from Emma Boughner (Bogart).
The attacking tandem of Libby Bochniak (Marietta) and Sarah Stewart (Savannah) was strong tonight, Bochniak recording 17 kills while Stewart added 15. Bochniak paired that with 14 digs for a double-double.
Joining her in double-double territory was freshman Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina), posting 48 assists and 17 digs, matching her career-high in assists. Junior Jordyn Moellering (Cumming) provided great passing with 28 digs on the night.
The win ends a six-match slide for GC Volleyball. Four of their seven wins this season have come in five-set matches.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 26 at noon, playing host to UNC Pembroke.
