MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a back-and-forth affair, the Georgia College Volleyball team (7-14, 1-5 PBC) fell in a five-set matchup with UNC Pembroke (12-15, 1-5 PBC) Saturday at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats took the first set with relative ease, 25-12. UNCP responded in a big way with a 25-14 and 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead. GC took the third 25-17 before UNCP came back from down 14-13 to win the final set 16-14.
Sophomore Sarah Stewart (Savannah) had her best match as a Bobcat, pounding out 21 kills on a whopping .474 hitting with just three errors. She was flanked by 12 kills from senior Emily Crowell (Horseheads, New York).
The Bobcats had five reach double-digit digs, led by junior Libby Bochniak (Marietta) at 19. Freshman Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) added 17, with senior Nicole Cohen (Atlanta) posting 15. Junior Jordyn Moellering (Cumming) and sophomore Morgan Overly (St. Simons Island) added 14 and 10, respectively.
Long had a double-double, adding 47 assists to the cause, as the team hit .163 as a squad. The 25-12 first set was the best of the bunch, as GC hit at a .333 clip.
Stewart's 21 kills are a Bobcat-best for the first-year transfer, and the most by a Bobcat attacker since Bochniak had 24 against Emmanuel College Sept. 13.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., hosting Flagler College.
