MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 6 Georgia College Baseball team (4-3) dropped both ends of a doubleheader with No. 2 University of Tampa (3-2) Saturday at John Kurtz Field. The Spartans took game one 15-3 and added a 6-1 win in game two.
Game one saw Tampa jump in front with four runs in the first, and score a bunch late after some quiet middle innings.
The Bobcats finished with 10 hits for their three runs, as sophomore Bryce Bowen (Elberton) was 2-for-2 with a run in a reserve role. Senior Shane Connahan (Beaver Springs, Pennsylvania) had two hits in four trips, driving in a run, and third baseman Garrett Green (Bogart) also went 2-for-3. The loss went to starter Connor Darling (Suwanee), evening the junior's record at 1-1.
Game two was more trouble for the Bobcat bats, as Tampa starter Mason Duke threw seven innings, didn't walk a batter and scattered six hits for one unearned Bobcat run.
Shortstop Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) was 3-for-4 with three singles. Starter Harrison Veldsma (Marietta) threw five innings in the loss (0-1). Righty reliever Kyle King (Johns Creek) ate up the late portion of the game, spinning four innings with just two hits and not a single walk for one unearned run.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. for the final game of the four-game set with Tampa.
