GC Baseball Upsets #20 Mount Olive, 11-6

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla. – The Georgia College Baseball team (2-0) jumped in front of No. 20 University of Mount Olive (1-1) early Saturday at the University of Tampa, buzzing through to an 11-6 victory over the Bobcats' first nationally-ranked opponent of 2020.

Georgia College plated five runs in the first. The biggest blow was a two-run double by leftfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta, Georgia). After UMO answered with three runs in the second to draw within one at 5-4, the Bobcats plated three of their own in the bottom half.

First baseman KC Brown (Rincon, Georgia) provided an RBI single, and Grazzini drove in another pair with another double.

The GC pitching staff settled in, putting up a four-inning scoreless streak from the fifth to the ninth. The Trojans managed just one hit over that stretch.

Grazzini finished 2-for-5 with the two doubles and four RBIs. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta, Georgia) had three hits in five trips, driving in two and scoring twice as well. Brown rattled off four hits in five at-bats, adding two runs and two RBIs. Third baseman Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta, Georgia) added two runs and two RBIs as well.

Senior Harrison Veldsma (Marietta, Georgia) got the win in relief, tossing 4 2/3 innings with just three hits and a single run. He fanned six and walked just one. Sophomore righty Forrest Wilson (Marietta, Georgia) did a great job closing the door, surrendering just three hits and a run over the final two innings.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m., taking on Defending National Champion and current No. 1 Tampa.
