Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Basketball Team (13-14, 10-9 PBC) stormed back from a big deficit to take a 92-87 double overtime victory from Lander University (19-8, 13-6 PBC) Wednesday night at the Centennial Center.

The Bearcats dominated the first half, leading the Bobcats 42-27 at the break. That lead grew to 22, their biggest of the game, when Sidney Robinson nailed a three-pointer with 16:46 to go in the second half.

The Bobcats chipped away at the lead throughout the second half, cutting it to single digits with a Jordan Thomas (Conyers) three-pointer off the glass with 8:16 left in regulation. The junior finished with 17 points on the night, adding five rebounds and two assists.

Freshman Brandon Thomas (McDonough) gave Georgia College a 65-64 lead with 5:57 in the second half with a three-pointer of his own, the first Bobcat lead since they were up 2-0. The freshman guard finished with 23 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-14 from three, adding six rebounds and two assists.

The game went back and forth over the final few minutes with multiple ties and lead changes. With the Bobcats trailing by one with less than a minute to go, Brandon Thomas once again nailed a three-pointer from the right wing with 13.8 seconds left on the clock, giving the Bobcats a 76-74 lead. The Bearcats responded with a layup to send the game into overtime tied at 76. Georgia College outscored the Bearcats 49-34 in the second half.

The first overtime was quiet, as both teams combined for eight points and were deadlocked at 80 after the five minutes expired.

However, the second overtime was owned by the Bobcats, with the nail in the coffin coming from another big Brandon Thomas three-pointer with 32.9 seconds remaining. Georgia College added a free throw each from Jordan Thomas and Wesley Simpson (DeLand, Florida/Union Grove HS (Ga.)) to complete the comeback. The Bobcats outscored Lander 12-7 in the second overtime.

Simpson led the Bobcats in scoring with 25 points, also grabbing nine rebounds. Junior Justin Cave (Savannah) filled the statline with 11 points, four rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Georgia College has already clinched a spot in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament and currently sits at sixth place in the standings.
