Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. – In the Bobcats first action nearly two weeks, the No. 8 Georgia College Baseball Team (9-1, 5-1 PBC) took game one of the series at No. 20 University of North Georgia (10-3, 7-3 PBC) in extra innings, 7-4.
The Bobcats struck first in the third inning when junior Cassius Young (Atlanta) launched a two out, three-run home run. The home run was the third of the year for the shortstop, leading the team.
North Georgia responded with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
Georgia College tied the game at four in the seventh when Young hit a two out single up the middle that scored senior Cal Gentry (Perry).
That score remained 4-4 until the 11th, when the Bobcat offense put up three runs to take a 7-4 lead. Junior Austin Holloway (Social Circle) broke the tie with an RBI single, with Young adding to the lead with a sacrifice fly, followed by a Cam Hill (Marietta) RBI single.
Brennan Crooms (Metter) earned the win, advancing to 3-0 on the season. The sophomore was excellent in relief, allowing only one hit over six innings, striking out five and walking five.
Senior Kyle King (Johns Creek) got the start, giving up four runs on four hits in five innings pitched, striking out three and walking five.
Georgia College finished with 12 hits on the night. Young led the way, putting up five RBIs as part of a 2-for-5 effort, including the home run. Paul Grazzini (Marietta) added to the offensive output, going 3-for-4 with a walk.
KC Brown (Rincon) and Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta) each had two hits and a double. Gentry walked and scored three times each, adding two stolen bases.
The Bobcas are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. for game two of the three-game series against the Nighthawks.
