MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Defense was at a premium Saturday in the Centennial Center, as Georgia College Men's Basketball (9-12, 6-7 PBC) lost to Clayton State University (4-17, 2-12 PBC) 103-101 in overtime.

The Bobcats had five double-digit scorers, but that couldn't overcome the strong outside shooting provided by the Lakers today.

At the end of regulation, Wesley Simpson (DeLand, Florida/Union Grove HS (Ga.)) made an aggressive move to the left side for a 92-90 lead with 36 seconds left. After Clayton tied the matchup with a pair of free-throws, a three attempt by the Bobcats for the win was blocked by Clayton's Bryan Hart.

Overtime unfortunately brought a cold spell about mid-way through, as the Lakers took a 94-94 game and moved it out to 102-96 with 1:21 remaining.

Simpson hit a pair of free throws, the Bobcats got a defensive stop and then Simpson knocked down a three for a one-point deficit at 102-101 with 39 seconds remaining. Both teams came up empty on possessions, then Hart hit a free throw to stretch the game out to 103-101. After Hart missed the second, the Bobcats had 5.7 seconds to run the floor, and a game-winner came up just short, moving the Bobcats to 0-4 in overtime games this season.

Juniors Jordan Thomas (Conyers) and Justin Cave (Savannah) shared the team lead with 21 points each. Jordan Thomas made nine field goals and brought in eight rebounds. Cave hit three from long range, falling three points short of his career high.

Simpson was all over the floor, tallying 14 points and 13 boards for a double-double, and dishing out a game-high seven assists. The double-dip was his fourth of the season.

Sophomore Chris Parks (Buford) also posted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, his first in a Bobcat uniform. Freshman Brandon Thomas (McDonough) came off the bench for 13 points, hitting 3-of-5 from long range.

The loss puts the Bobcats at 6-7 in league play, good for seventh in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) standings. The top eight advance to the PBC Tournament March 4.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m., traveling to Columbus State University (12-9, 7-6 PBC). The Cougars most recently lost 97-73 at Lander University today.
