DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Swatting five home runs along the way, the No. 8 Georgia College Baseball team (11-1, 7-1 PBC) completed the sweep of No. 20 University of North Georgia (10-5, 7-5 PBC) with a 13-1 victory Sunday on the road.
The Bobcats jumped out early and never looked back. Catcher Austin Holloway (Social Circle) blasted a leadoff home run to left, his second this season. First baseman KC Brown (Rincon) drove in another with a single, setting up leftfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) for a three-run blast to right center. The round-tripper was Grazzini's second of the season as well.
Third baseman Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta) added two more runs with a rip to center in the third. The sophomore has now homered in consecutive games and has three on the season. Brown added a solo blast in the fifth to left, and a two-run shot to right in the seventh. The senior has three four-baggers on the season, all against nationally-ranked competition.
Lost in all of this offensive muscle, three Bobcat pitchers combined to hold a potent North Georgia offense to just one run on four hits. Sophomore Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) got the start, going five shutout innings with two hits and three strikeouts for the win (1-0). Junior righty Connor Darling (Suwanee) threw three innings, allowing a single run and adding three more strikeouts, while junior righty Tristen Thompson (Bishop) made his first appearance of the season, retiring the final three in order.
The 5-6-7 hitters combined for quite a day; eight hits, four home runs, nine RBIs and nine runs. Brown finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs. Grazzini was also 3-for-4, combining four runs with three driven in. Mendlinger added a 2-for-3 day, two RBIs and two runs.
Shortstop Cassius Young (Atlanta) continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs. Young has had multi-hit games in each of his last seven contests.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m., traveling to USC Aiken.
