MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball team (4-10) lost both ends of a doubleheader Sunday to perennial region power Wingate University (9-7) at the Peeler Complex, 3-0 and 10-5.
Game one was a pitcher's duel, Wingate's Aubrey Reep out-shooting GC's MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn). Reep got the four-hit shutout, fanning eight Bobcats along the way. Michels (2-2) hung tough until the sixth, giving up a two-run double. The sophomore lefty finished with 5 2/3 innings, scattering six hits and three walks for the two runs.
Reep held the Bobcat offense in check, with sophomore Hannah Rogers (Marietta) providing a bright spot at 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Game two was a quite different contest, the Bobcats using three pitchers before they could escape the top of the first inning. Wingate plated three runs there, and a huge six-spot in the third inning, leading 10-1 after four.
GC's bats came alive in the fifth, but it was a bit too late, eventually falling by the 10-5 score. Freshman Brooke Lougher (Suwanee) was 2-for-3 with a double, driving in three runs in game two, while senior Amber Coy (Warner Robins) had a hit and scored two runs.
Sophomore righty Ally Black (Norris City, Illinois) looked pretty sharp in game two, going the final 4 1/3 innings with two earned runs, three whiffs and five hits.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 3 at 4 p.m., playing host to the University of West Georgia.
