Coy Walkoff Helps GC Softball Split with West Georgia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Softball Team (7-13) split with the University of West Georgia (12-10) today in a nonconference doubleheader, finishing with a walk-off thriller in game two.

The Bobcats pulled off a nail-biting victory in tonight's second game 2-1. Game one was offensive battle for both teams while game two was a pitching duel that resulted in a Bobcat victory. Sophomore MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn) held the Wolves to one unearned run, scattering four hits and two walks over seven innings. Michels (3-2) fanned just one in the complete-game effort, using her defense including senior shortstop Amber Coy (Warner Robins) guarding the 5-6 hole. Not only was Coy guarding the left side of the infield she hit the walk-off single to knock in the winning run.

The Bobcats scored both of their runs in the seventh inning set up by two singles to right center. Sophomore Ariel Edenfield (Dublin) entered the game as a pinch hitter and stung a double to right center that scored the first run of the inning. Coy followed by taking a 1-2 pitch to shallow left center to win the game. Coy finished 2-for-4 with the RBI.

Bobcats put up some great offense in the first game versus the Wolves, but it wasn't enough to put them down. The Bobcats cycled through three pitchers with reliever Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia) taking the loss in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Bobcats managed to score six runs on eight hits, including a five-run third. Sophomore Carlie Behan (Cumming) ripped an RBI double, and both Samantha Vinson (Jefferson) and Lauren Sommerer (Loganville) had run-scoring singles in the inning. Vinson finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a double of her own.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday at the Peeler Complex for the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) contest of the season against Georgia Southwestern State University in doubleheader fashion, a 4 p.m. first pitch at the Peeler Complex.
