AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 8 Georgia College Baseball Team (12-1, 8-1 PBC) won their fourth straight game in a 7-2 series-opening win at USC Aiken (9-7, 3-7 PBC) Friday night.
The Bobcats plated lone runs in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings, all on RBI singles, two each from sophomore Jay Saunders (Moultrie, Georgia) and senior KC Brown (Rincon, Georgia).
After a USCA run in the bottom of the seventh, the Bobcats added three runs in the ninth. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta, Georgia) hit a sacrifice fly, followed by another Brown RBI single and later a Matt White (Lakeland, Georgia) double that plated a run. White finished the night 2-for-3 with the double and RBI along with a walk.
Georgia College continued to play well offensively, tallying 14 hits and working eight walks in total. Brown led the way with a 4-for-5 effort, including a double and 3 RBIs. Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) was 3-for-4 with three runs, a double, three stolen bases, and a walk. Sophomore Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta, Georgia) scored two runs and tallied a hit with two walks and a stolen base.
Starter Kyle King (Johns Creek, Georgia) was excellent in 6 2/3 innings pitched, scattering five hits for just a single run, walking three and striking out five. The senior pitched out of multiple jams, stranding eight Pacers on the basepaths while improving to 3-0 on the season.
Brennan Crooms (Metter, Georgia) got the final seven outs, allowing a run on a hit, walking none and striking out four.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 7 at 2 p.m. for game two of the three-game series against the Pacers.
