GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Cinderella run through the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament for Georgia College Men's Basketball (14-16) came to a close Saturday when the No. 7-seed Bobcats ran into the nearly unstoppable No. 3-seed Lander University (22-8), a 104-67 win for the Bearcats.
Georgia College's trouble started with a cold spell mid-way through the first half. GC leading 10-7 after junior Jordan Thomas (Conyers, Georgia) made a jumper, the Bearcats responded with an 18-3 run.
The first half couldn't have finished up much better for Lander, leading 46-28 at the break after shooting 57 percent from the field. The Bearcats were led at halftime by 10 points from LaRaymond Spivery.
The second half was more of the same unfortunately, Lander upping its shooting to 63 percent. Tyler Brevard had a whopping 16 second-half points.
Jordan Thomas led GC with 21 points, flanked by 20 points, seven boards and three assists from sophomore Wesley Simpson (DeLand, Florida/Union Grove HS (Ga.)). Freshman Brandon Thomas (McDonough, Georgia) added 11 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Chris Parks (Buford, Georgia) chipped in 10.
Brevard led all scorers with 25 points, but the Bearcats got contributions from everyone as each of the 11 players that saw time contributed to the scoring.
The loss brings a 2019-20 season to a close for GC Men's Basketball, one with many highlights. Among them are the second All-PBC honor for Jordan Thomas in his career, the first PBC Tournament game victory for GC since 2009 and a thrilling Homecoming win over the University of North Georgia.
