AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 8 Georgia College Baseball Team (13-2, 9-2 PBC) couldn't collect the series sweep Sunday afternoon against USC Aiken (10-8, 4-8 PBC), losing 7-4.
Down 4-0 in the seventh inning, the Bobcats cut the lead in half with RBI singles from rightfielder Jay Saunders (Moultrie, Georgia) and pinch hitter Matt White (Lakeland, Georgia). Saunders also recorded a walk and stolen base on the day.
USC Aiken responded with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the seventh, increasing its lead to 7-2.
In the eighth, the Bobcats got a leadoff single from Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) before junior Cassius Young (Atlanta, Georgia) launched a two-run home run to make the score 7-4, the last of the scoring for the Bobcats.
Young now has four home runs on the season, leading the squad, along with 21 RBIs, tied with first baseman KC Brown (Rincon, Georgia) for tops on the team. Young finished the day 2-for-3, stealing a base in addition to his two-run round-tripper.
Georgia College out-hit the Pacers 11 to nine for the game. Paul Grazzini (Marietta, Georgia) went 2-for-3 with a run, while Gentry had two hits, including a double.
Starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody, Georgia) took the loss (1-1), giving up four runs on six hits in six innings, walking three and striking out three.
The Bobcats will be back in action Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m., beginning a three-game series against UNC Pembroke at John Kurtz Field.
