FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (6-13) couldn't get the season sweep over Emmanuel College (7-10) Thursday on the road, the Bobcats falling in five sets.
Emmanuel was a much different team than the one seen in the 3-1 Bobcat victory in Milledgeville Sept. 28. The Lions came storming out of the gate with a hard-fought 27-25 win in the first set, but the Bobcats put their backs against the wall with wins in sets two and three. GC won both by 25-23 scores.
Emmanuel took another set in extra points for the fourth, 26-24, then closed it out in the fifth with a tight 15-11 finish. The Bobcats led the fifth set by as late as 9-6, but the Lions went on a 9-2 run from there to finish it off.
The Bobcats had a trio of double-digit attackers, with both Sarah Stewart (Savannah) and Ally Hall (Cumming) putting down 14 kills. Senior Sarah Mangan (Farmingville, New York) joined the party with 10 of her own. Hall and Stewart each tallied double-doubles with 18 and 14 digs, respectively.
Senior setter Lauren Talele (Woodstock) had her own double-double effort with 36 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore libero Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) recorded a career-high 29 digs and junior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) snuck into double-digits as well with 10.
The Bobcats had a season-high nine aces for the match, with both DeSalvo and Long getting three each.
With tonight's 14 kills, Stewart now has 560 in her career, passing Emily Crowell (2019) for seventh place in school history. Up next is Emma Boughner (2021) with 589.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m., traveling to Young Harris College.
