GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (9-20, 3-6 PBC) came up short on a bid for a season sweep, falling in three sets at Lander University (12-11, 3-6 PBC) Friday night.
The first set was the closest, a 25-20 victory for the Bearcats. Lander then rolled through the final two 25-10 and 25-13. GC had 10 kills each in the first and third sets.
The attack was balanced, but just not enough for the Bobcats. Senior Sarah Mangan (Farmingville, New York), graduate student Sarah Stewart (Savannah, Georgia) and freshman Ally Hall (Cumming, Georgia) each had seven kills. Mangan led the scoring finishing with 9.5 points thanks to her three blocks. She hit a team-high .278 as well.
Senior Lauren Talele (Woodstock, Georgia) extended her double-double streak to six straight with 10 digs and 22 assists. The double-dip was her 19th this season. Senior Morgan Overly (St. Simons Island, Georgia) got the start at libero for the first time in her career and led with 16 digs, while Hall chipped in 15.
The loss gives the Bobcats a split with the Bearcats in the season series, having beaten Lander at home in four. The Bobcats are now 3-6 in PBC play, positioned fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) standings with one league match left.
With Talele's 22 assists tonight, she has 904 on the season, ranking fifth in school history.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m., hosting Queens University in non-conference play.
