GC Men's Hoops Gets Defensive in PBC Win at North Georgia, 58-52

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Basketball team (8-1, 1-0 PBC) got Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play started off on the right foot Saturday, winning a low-scoring affair at the University of North Georgia (7-3, 0-1 PBC) 58-52.

Senior Jordan Thomas (Conyers) led all scorers with 22 points, hitting half of his eight three-point shots and all six free-throw attempts. He added five boards and three assists. Junior Wesley Simpson (DeLand, Florida/Union Grove HS [Ga.]) added 10 points, while sophomore Luke Chism (Dawsonville) filled a boxscore, yanking down 10 rebounds with four steals, two blocks, an assist and two points.

After a three-point play from UNG's #11 with 18 seconds left cut the Bobcat lead to two at 54-52, the Nighthawks were tagged with a flagrant foul, allowing the Bobcats to ice the game from the free throw line. Simpson knocked down two, followed by two from Thomas to close out the game.

The Bobcats were out-shot 32 percent to 38 percent from the field, and got an edge in three-point baskets, 11-6. The Bobcats also won the bench battle 15-13, led by eight from Christian Koneman (Chatsworth).

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m., playing host to Young Harris College at the Centennial Center.
