Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Soccer team (1-0) couldn't have picked a better start to the Spring 2021 season Sunday, edging No. 23 University of North Georgia (2-1) 1-0 in overtime at the Baldwin Rec Department Fields.
In the first shot attempt for either squad in the extra frame, junior Ryann Smith (Sharpsburg) lofted a pass through the defense to find a running Alexis Bergamini (West Suffield, Connecticut) on the left side of the box. Bergamini gathered and punched a shot to the near side of the net to win the match.
The two teams battled for 90 minutes and came up empty, UNG totaling 11 shots to GC's 5 in regulation.
Sophomore Kate Richardson (Marietta) had the six-save shutout, making one stop in the first half and five in the second. The shutout was the third in Richardson's career.
The goal was the fourth of Bergamini's career, and the assist was Smith's second.
The win snaps an eight-match losing streak to the Nighthawks for Bobcat Soccer. The last time the Bobcats beat UNG was 2012, and the last home win over North Georgia came in the 2009 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 1 at 3 p.m., travelling to Francis Marion University.
