MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 8 Georgia College Baseball team (4-1, 4-1 PBC) split a pair with the University of North Georgia (9-2, 9-2 PBC) Saturday at John Kurtz Field. The Bobcats won game one in run-rule fashion 16-6 in seven innings, then dropped game two 12-3.
Game one was buoyed by two big innings, GC scoring five in the first and another six in the third. The Bobcats pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of nine walks.
Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) swatted a pair of home runs and a double, finishing 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs. Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry) added a home run as well, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs.
Catcher Austin Holloway (Social Circle) and shortstop Cassius Young (Atlanta) each tallied two hits and drove in a pair of runs apiece. Both of Holloway's hits were doubles. Leftfielder Jay Saunders (Moultrie) added two hits and a run.
Senior righty Kyle King (Johns Creek) picked up the win (1-0), allowing four earned over five innings, tallying four whiffs. The Bobcats got to three-time Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Pitcher of the Week Parker Morrison, as he couldn't escape the third in the loss.
In game two the Bobcats led 2-0 after four, thanks to RBI singles from Hunter Hice (Adairsville) and Saunders. Junior righty Connor Darling (Suwanee) was nothing short of dominant early, bringing a perfect game and nine strikeouts with him to the fifth.
The inning started with a groundout, then Brady Eeles rocketed a single back up the middle that hit Darling, who had to exit the game. With Darling on the bench, the Nighthawk bats came alive, scoring four runs in that inning to get the lead, and and pulling away with a big seven-run sixth.
The Bobcats were handcuffed for the final four innings, as Eddie Galatas spun the four, fanning 10 and not allowing a single hit. He improved to 1-1 on the season.
Hice finished 2-for-2 with an RBI.
The Bobcats close out the series with the Nighthawks tomorrow, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
