Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball team (0-8) came up empty in a doubleheader with undefeated Catawba College (9-0) Sunday at the Peeler Complex, falling 11-2 and 7-5.
The Bobcats dug a big hole in game one, surrendering six in the first. GC got a run in the first on an error, ad then nabbed a second run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly.
After Catawba plated four in the fifth and the Bobcats couldn't answer, the game finished early by run-rule. Brooke Lougher (Suwanee) and Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina) each drove in runs.
In game two, the Bobcats struggled out of the gate again, allowing four in the first. This time, the Bobcats answered with four of their own in the bottom half.
Samantha Vinson (Jefferson) tagged a solo home run in the inning, Carlie Behan (Cumming) drove in a run with a single, and Sadie Waters (Cumming) plated the final two with a double to center.
Catawba got a run in the third, and GC answered to knot it up 5-5 in the fourth. Single runs for the Indians in the fifth and sixth put Catawba ahead for good.
The Bobcats had the tying run at the plate in both the sixth and seventh, but couldn't manage the key hit to knot it up again.
Vinson finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. The home run was her first this season and the second of her young career. Lougher had two hits and an RBI, including a double.
Georgia College had solid relief in this one, as Thrower tossed 2 1/3 innings with just one run in the loss (0-4) and Ally Black (Norris City, Illinois) spun 2 2/3 innings with a single run as well.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m., traveling to Barton College.
