PEMBROKE, N.C. – The No. 8 Georgia College Baseball team (8-3, 7-3 PBC) stumbled to start a series with No. 14 UNC Pembroke (9-5, 7-3 PBC) Friday night, falling 10-1.
The early going was all pitching, as UNCP led 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh. The Bobcats took advantage of an error in the seventh to plate their lone run, cutting the lead in half 2-1.
The Braves answered with a four-run bottom of the seventh, getting a pair of RBI singles and a two-run home run from Trevor Clemons, then never looked back.
Leftfielder Jay Saunders (Moultrie, Georgia) was 2-for-4 with a run, and designated hitter Baylin Moore (Albany, Georgia) added his own 2-for-4 with a double, the lone extra-base hit for GC today. Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) also had a pair of hits in four trips.
Starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody, Georgia) suffered the loss (2-1) despite allowing just three earned runs over six innings, fanning five.
The Bobcats finish the series with UNCP tomorrow, March 13 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.
