Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUGUSTA, G.A.- The Georgia College Softball Team (4-12, 0-2 PBC) took two losses at Augusta University (8-8, 2-0 PBC) Saturday in both team's first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) matchup of the season.

Game one of the doubleheader yielded plenty of hits for GC with seven. Despite the seven hits on the board, the Bobcats were only able to plate two runs. The two RBIs came from Lauren Sommerer (Loganville) and MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face). Sommerer was 3-for-4 in game one with three singles. Hoffman finished 1-for-3 with a single. The only extra-base hit came from Carlie Behan (Cumming), a double to left-center, putting her in scoring position for Hoffman.

The game one pitching duties were handled solely by the junior MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn). Michels got the start and the loss (2-4) for GC in her six innings of work. She gave up four earned runs on six hits, adding two strikeout victims in the contest as well.

In game two of the doubleheader the Bobcats were able to plate four runs and take the early lead, scoring twice in the third and two more times in the fifth.

In the third, Sommerer drove in a run with a single, as did senior Haley Howell (Rochelle). In the fifth, Howell knocked in both runs with a single swing, swatting her first home run this season.

In the circle for GC the entirety of game two was freshman Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina). Thrower held the Jaguars scoreless until the sixth inning of the game. She gave up five earned runs on 11 hits, the Jaguars completing the comeback with runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Thrower (0-6) claimed four strikeout victims in her 7 2/3 innings of work.

With today's three RBIs, Howell passed Haley Burnett (2012) into fifth place in career runs batted in at Georgia College. Howell now has 117 in her career, standing 14 behind No. 4 Heather Jones (2006).

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, March 18 at Coker University at 2 p.m. Live stats and live broadcast of the game will be available at GCBobcats.com
