GC Softball Drops Two at Home to Francis Marion, 13-3 and 9-3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE- Ga.- The Georgia College Softball team (4-16, 0-6 PBC) dropped both ends of a doubleheader at home to Francis Marion University (8-8, 4-0 PBC) Thursday, 13-3 and 9-3.

The first game yielded three runs for the Bobcats. The first run of the game came from a double from sophomore Lauren Sommerer (Loganville) knocking in classmate Sadie Waters (Cumming). Waters reached base on an infield single. Sommerer scored later in that inning on an RBI single from Samantha Vinson (Jefferson). In the next half inning, the run came from a Waters single scoring Carlie Behan (Cumming).

Waters and Vinson each finished game one 2-for-3. Waters scored a run and drove in one, while Vinson also provided an RBI.

Starter MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn) threw 2 1/3 innings in the loss (2-5).

Game two also yielded three runs for the Bobcats. Junior Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville) had two RBIs, both coming from a single to center scoring Waters and MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face) in the first inning, giving GC a 2-0 lead.

After the Patriots jumped in front, a sacrifice fly from Ashley Schell (Cumming) cut their advantage to 4-3, but a three-run top of the seventh provided the insurance to push it out of reach.

Hobbs posted a 3-for-4 effort in game two, driving in the two runs.

The pitching duties for game two were carried solely by the freshman Golden Thrower (Hannahan, South Carolina). She picked up three strikeouts in her loss (0-6).

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 30 to take on Georgia Southwestern State University on the road at 4 p.m. Live stats and live broadcast of the game will be available at GCBobcats.com.
