Box Score 2 AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia College Softball Team (5-17, 1-7 PBC) took down Georgia Southwestern State University (10-6, 1-1 PBC) once in two tries to snag the Bobcats' first conference win of the season. GC fell in the opener 9-1, rebounding for a 6-4 extra-inning win in game two.
The first game of the contest went to the Hurricanes by five-inning run-rule. The lone Bobcat run came in the top of the fifth on an RBI single to center from freshman Ashley Schell (Cumming) to score junior Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville).
The starter of game one was sophomore MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn). Michels got the loss in her four innings of work. She only allowed two earned runs on nine hits and fanned three batters.
Lauren Sommerer (Loganville) was 2-for-3 in game one. Hobbs also went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Schell had a 2-for-3 game with the RBI.
The second game yielded a victory for the Bobcats with an eight-inning battle. The GC bats were hot in game two, plating six runs on 10 hits. The first score came in the first inning on a Haley Howell (Rochelle) single to centerfield to score freshman Bella Carnes (Cartersville).
Both Samantha Vinson (Jefferson) and Hobbs added run-scoring doubles. The Hurricanes tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth to eventually force extra innings.
The GC offense came alive in the top of the eighth to plate two runs, the first a single off the bat of freshman MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face) that saw Sydney Newberry (Springfield) score on an error. Hobbs then provided an insurance run with a solo shot to right-center, her fourth home run of the season.
The pitching duties were split between the starter Ally Black (Norris City, Illinois) and the game one starter Michels. Black had one strike out and only allowed three earned runs on four hits in her five innings of work. Michels (3-6) came in as a reliever, struck out two batters and allowed no runs on two hits in her three innings of work as she picked up the win.
Hobbs finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Vinson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Hoffman finished 2-for-2.
