MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 8 Georgia College Baseball team (7-1, 6-1 PBC) used a five-run eighth to upend USC Aiken's (4-6, 4-6 PBC) upset bid Friday night at John Kurtz Field, the Bobcats pulling off a 10-7 win.
The Bobcats trailed 7-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth, when rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) led off with a single. After an out, shortstop Cassius Young (Atlanta) blasted a two-run home run to right center to tie it.
Not finished there, the Bobcats took the lead on an error, then got a two-run single from Ben Tuten (Bristol) for insurance.
The Bobcats got a slow start, trailing 5-1 in the second inning. GC chipped away with two in the fourth and another two in the fifth to set up the eighth-inning heroics.
GC rattled off 15 hits, as Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run, and Tuten also had a 3-for-5 night. Grazzini had two hits, scoring twice, while Cal Gentry (Perry) had another two-hit game with a run.
Reliever Forrest Wilson (Marietta) threw three scoreless innings of relief to settle the Pacers down, allowing the Bobcats to get back in it. Wilson (1-0) scattered two hits, fanned two and didn't walk a single batter. Mendlinger took to the mound for his first save, putting USCA down in order in the ninth.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 6 at 1 p.m., finishing the series with USCA in a doubleheader.
