WILSON, N.C.- The Georgia College Softball Team (2-8) picked up their first wins of the season in convincing fashion on the road Saturday at Barton College (3-7), 8-2 and 9-1. 

The first game of the two-game set resulted in an 8-2 Bobcat victory. Junior MacKenzie Michels (Lilburn, Georgia) held the pitching duties for all seven innings with three strikeout victims. Michels (1-2) only allowed three hits and two earned runs. 

The Bobcat offense got an early start in the second inning with a Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville, Georgia) home run knock. GC busted game one wide open in the fifth inning with a few mishaps from the Bulldog defense and two doubles. Hobbs knocked in the first of the inning on a double and sophomore Samantha Vinson (Jefferson, Georgia) drove in another one with a double of her own. Barton had a few more mishaps to give the Bobcats three more runs. 

Lauren Sommerer (Loganville, Georgia) finished 2-for-3 with a run, while MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face, Georgia) was 2-for-4 with a run scored as well. Hobbs finished the game at 2-for-4 with the home run--her second of the year--and three RBIs. 

Game two of the doubleheader resulted in a six-inning run-rule victory, 9-1. GC split the game between two pitchers, both throwing three innings apiece. The winner and also the starter of the contest junior Ally Black (Norris City, Illinois) only gave up four hits and one run in her three innings of work. The reliever for game two junior Holly Phillips (Macon) had a single strikeout victim and no earned runs to close out the game. 

The GC offense had a three-run third inning to build off of the single run in the first. Sommerer knocked in the first run of the game for the Bobcats scoring freshman Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina) who reached on an error. Hobbs continued to have herself a day, getting a multi-base knock in game two as well, scoring junior Carlie Behan (Cumming, Georgia). 

Sommerer was great again in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Hobbs, Thrower and Sadie Waters (Cumming, Georgia) had two hits apiece. Thrower drove in two and scored twice, while Hobbs added two runs and an RBI. Waters scored twice as well for the Bobcats and added a double. 

The Georgia College softball team is back in action in doubleheader fashion tomorrow March 7 on the road at the University of Mount Olive. The first pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m. Live stats as well as the live stream of the contests will be available at GCBobcats.com.
