GC Volleyball Drops Season Opener at UNC Pembroke in Four

Box Score

PEMBROKE N.C.- The Georgia College Volleyball squad (0-1) fought hard in the first road test of the season against UNC Pembroke (1-0) losing in four sets.

After the Braves took the first two sets 25-11 and 25-16, the Bobcat squad went back and forth with the Braves in the third set of the match. Once GC scored the 14th point of the set, they never let the lead go taking that set 25-20.

GC stayed close with UNCP in the final set of the match taking the 25-23 loss. The Bobcats never let the Braves have more than a two-point lead in this frame, that coming at the very end.

"I am very proud of this team," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "There were a few nerves after the long offseason, however they bounced back to play GC Volleyball in sets three and four. I give a lot of credit to coach [Ellen] McGill and her team. There were lots of long rallies and high energy tonight and I'm very excited to see what the Bobcats bring to the rest of the season."

Senior Libby Bochniak (Marietta, Georgia) led the charge today for the Bobcats with 18.5 points. Bochniak had 16 digs and 18 kills through all four sets earning her her first season double-double.

Senior Emma Boughner (Bogart, Georgia) put up 10.5 points through her four sets of play, including nine kills with an attack percentage of .300.

Junior Emily Sweatman (Canton, Georgia) and sophomore Sarah Stewart (Savannah, Georgia) both had 7.5 points apiece in today's action. Sweatman and Stewart had seven kills and three digs each.

Junior Lauren Talele (Woodstock, Georgia) made her presence known on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. Talele put up her own double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs. The defensive leader was freshman Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) with 18 digs. Senior Jordyn Moellering (Cumming) chipped in with 11.

Bobcat Volleyball is back in action Friday, March 12 at Young Harris College at 6 p.m. Live stats and live stream of the game will be available at GCBobcats.com.
