Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (19-17, 17-15 PBC) knocked the ball all over the yard in a doubleheader sweep of Augusta University (8-24, 4-23 PBC)
Game one was decided by a big four-run eighth. The Bobcats led early 5-0, but after the Jaguars whittled away at the advantage, GC found itself down 8-7 heading into the seventh. Shortstop Cassius Young (Atlanta) tied the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh, setting GC up for the game-deciding eighth.
The Bobcats took advantage of the Jaguar defense in the eighth, scoring the four runs on three hits and two errors. GC took the lead on a bases-loaded walk, scored another on a balk, and two more on a wild pitch and an error.
Young had a big game, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, scoring three times as well. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) was 3-for-5 with a run and RBI, ripping a pair of doubles. Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry) was 2-for-4 with four runs scored, adding a double and triple. Third baseman Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta) had two hits, two RBIs and a run, while first baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) added a pair of hits, a run and an RBI.
Reliever Garrett Houston (Macon) picked up his first career victory in the game, improving to 1-1 on the season. He threw the last 2 1/3 innings scoreless with three hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
In game two, both teams were hard to keep off the basepaths, combining for 32 hits.
The Bobcats used a four-run sixth and four-run seventh to get the relatively-comfortable 16-9 win.
Young swatted another home run as part of a 2-for-5 game plating four more runs and scoring once. He now has nine home runs this season and 16 in his career. Leftfielder Jay Saunders (Moultrie) went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Catcher Austin Holloway (Social Circle) had three hits in five trips, scoring three times and driving in one. Bellflower was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
Designated hitter Baylin Moore (Albany) had a 2-for-5 game, plating three runs and scoring three times. Gentry had two more hits, including another triple, and Mendlinger was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Reliever Luc Scudellari (Roswell) slammed the door on the Jaguars, tossing the final two innings scoreless, striking out five and walking two. He improved to 2-1 on the season.
With the five runs scored on the day, Gentry now has 217 in his career, passing Logan Mattix (2018) for sixth in school history. Gentry's triple in the fifth of game one was the 300th hit in the senior's career, as he becomes the fourth member of GC's 300-hit club. Gentry joins GC Hall of Famers Tom Gorman (1986), Phil Arp (1983) and Keith Slocumb (1985).
The Bobcats finish the series with the Jaguars Sunday, April 25 at 1 p.m. GC Baseball will hold its Senior Day program Sunday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
